Swimming

Swimming and water safety

All schools must provide swimming instruction either in key stage 1 or key stage 2.

In particular, pupils should be taught to:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

At Mission Grove we do block swimming sessions at the London Aquatic Centre, Stratford.

Learning to swim is an essential life skill; potentially life-saving, great fun and a wonderful way to keep fit but it is so much more than that too! Learning to swim can translate into life skills that carry you and your child far beyond the swimming pool and help enhance all areas of your lives.

In this academic year we will be taking the following groups swimming :

3rd -14th October -Year 2

17th - 21st October - Year 6

14th - 25th November - Year 5

20th February - 3rd March - Year 4

17th July Year 1 taster day

The children need a towel, swimming goggles, swimming hat, one piece swim suit, swimming trunks and a healthy snack.

They must not wear jewellery on their swimming days.

If you want to help your child to swim more locally then why not visit the Feel Good Centre. Click here to see the webpage. It costs £4.90 per adult and £2.65 per child.
