2023-24

In March 2013 the government announced that it was to provide funding of £150 million per annum for academic years 2013 to 2014 and 2014 to 2015 to improve provision of physical education and sport in primary schools in England – The Primary PE and Sport Premium. The funding has continued year-on-year.

This funding is allocated to primary school headteachers. The funding is ring-fenced and, therefore, can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

At Mission Grove, engagement in physical activity underpins the ethos of the school. We believe that physical activity is essential to a child’s mental health and well-being and through our provision we aim to:

  • Foster a love for and enjoyment of being active.
  • Promoting ‘fitness for life’ through various strategies, including sports leaders and five-a-day.
  • Identify talents and, when possible, link to external clubs.
  • Develop self-esteem, confidence and social skills.
  • Contribute to the physical development of each child.
  • Give children a way of expressing themselves and an opportunity to be creative.
  • Develop a range of skills that can be applied in other contexts.
  • Give children the opportunity to try out activities that they would not otherwise have access to.

The Sports Premium enables the school to offer more than we would be able to.
