Don't forget that as well as these activities you should be reading for 20 minutes every day and practising your times tables. Don't forget to access AR and complete some reading quizzes on the books you have read too.

    Write an adverb alphabet. An adverb is a word that tells you more information about the verb. It often tells us how, when or where.

    What do you think about this poem? Write your own 100 animal poem. Use the same format but choose your own animals. How can you illustrate your poem?

    Today you will be looking at inverse operations. The inverse of multiplication is division. I would like you to write out your times tables and then write the inverse sum.

    For example:

    1 x 3 = 3          3 divided by 3 = 1

    2 x 3  = 6        6 divided by 3 =2

    I would like you to choose the times table that you are most confident with and write it out. After each number sentence write the corresponding division sum. Remember to set out your work neatly.

     Maths Let's use our division methods to find fractions of amounts. 

    If we wanted to find 3/4 of 12, we would....

    Step 1: We draw a bar and break it into the number of pieces in the denominator (4). 

    Step 2: We share the amount (12) between the different sections of the bar (4). Make sure each section has the same amount (3). 

     

     

    Step 3: We look at the numerator (3) and add together the number of bar sections it tells us (3). 

    Step 4: We check our work! Does 3/4 of 12 equal 9.

    Last week, I was in school doing a lot of artwork with the children who are in at the moment. Those of you in Chaffinch know I love Art and I want to see some of the art you can create that represent you or the things you love and enjoy doing.

When writing remember to not only think about and describe their looks but their personality too. Remember when we were describing Aladdin and Jafar we talked about how Jafar was evil and sneaky and Aladdin was courageous and clever.

    Today is column subtraction. This might be new learning for lots of you so don't worry as long as you try your best that is all we ask!

    1. Please put your name (your child's name) and class for the subject in each email. - There are 4 classes sending work and this helps us work out what teacher the email is for. 

    2. Please try to send everything in 1 email as opposed to 4-5 emails  with only 1 picture in each.

    Practice your coordinates by playing this game. on primarygames.co.uk.  You help feed Billy by showing him to the location of the coordinates, because that is where the bugs are! Remember that the first number is for the bottom axis (horizontal) and the second number if for the vertical axis – the one that goes up and down. Good luck!

    Today’s challenge is to make a paper plane!  How far can you get it travel? What about if you change the design - does it change the way it flies?

    You can measure the distance it travels or write a set of instructions (for how to make a paper aeroplane) so that someone else can make one.

    Hello, Year two, it’s Mrs Hussain, I hope you are all well. It was very sunny yesterday, what did you do in the sun? I practised making shadow puppets with my hands.     Write a letter to your friend from school. Remember to include the features of a letter, address, date, who it’s to and from. You can use the school address. If you send it to us we can forward it on to your friend. Tell your friend all the exciting things that you have been doing.

     Maths - Problem Solving

    Today, for maths I would like you to play the games below. You need two dice for the first game. If you do not have dice, then try and make your own. For the second game you will need to make cards numbered 1 to 12 and a partner to play with. Have fun!

    Two Dice

    Here are two dice. If you add up the dots on the top you will get 7. Find two dice to roll yourself. Add the numbers that are on the top. What other totals could you get if you roll the dice again? Notes for adults: Children can count the total number of spots on the dice or add them together using number facts they already know. Record the results and explore the different totals that you can get. Help them to find all the possible combinations.

    Shut the Box

     You will need:

    Two dice and Cards with the numbers 1 to 12 on them.

    How to play

    The aim of the game is to turn over all the cards. You can turn over the cards that match the numbers on the dice. How to play Start with the numbers showing on all the cards. The first player rolls the two dice. They can turn over the cards which are the same as the numbers rolled. For example, if a 4 and a 5 is rolled, they would turn over the 4 and 5 cards. If a double is thrown, the player's turn ends. They can roll the dice again until they can't turn over any more cards. The cards that are left showing are then added and that is their score. The dice are then passed to the next player who turns the cards the right way up again and then rolls the dice in the same way as player one. They now can keep on rolling dice as long as each time they can turn over some new cards. When the player can't turn over any more cards, those that are left are added together and that is the player's score. The winner is the person with the lower score. It can be played with just one turn each or each player can have a number of turns that you decide at the beginning of the game.

    Investigate a small area of grass.

    1. Find a small patch of grass in your garden and mark out a 50cm x 50 cm square using pegs and string.
    2. Measure and record the height of the grass. 
    3. Carefully look over the patch and try to identify as many of the plants as you can, using the plant ID worksheet that is attached below. You could look even more closely with a magnifying glass if you have one. 
    4. Now draw three of your favourite plants from the patch.
    5. Are there any insects that you can spot, identify and draw as well?
    6. Come back to the same patch over the coming weeks and record how it changes as the seasons progress. Can you explain the changes you notice?

    24.4.20 Today is the beginning of Ramadan

    Literacy

    Log on to Discovery Espresso and read a newspaper article to find out all about Ramadan, what it is and who celebrates it.

    After reading the article (or watching the video) complete the Quiz. Don’t forget to let us know how you did?????!

    After that, write two paragraphs to explain what Ramadan is and why it is a special time for people. The question you have to answer is - how will it be different this year from other years?

    There are lots of Extra Activities available on the site so you can explore them too. You can even do one of these lovely crafts.

    Today I want you to look at patterns. You can choose the level to start at T.1 (an introduction where you copy the pattern) and T.7 which gets a little bit trickier. Draw your own shape patterns next, using as many unusual shapes as you can think of. 

    Science - Explorify

    Here are two more activities to explore about plants. One video will explain what to expect when a shoot starts to grow, and the other involves looking at different shapes of leaves and how they help a plant to survive. What can you notice about the plants around you ?

Although it has been made by teachers children should still be supervised when using it.

    To celebrate this Earth Day I'd like you to look at this poster and think about how many of these you already do, or could do more of. Talk with your family about what changes you could make to help protect the planet that we all call home. 

    Can you think of any other things that can help Reduce, Reuse or Recycle what we use? You could design your own Top Tips like this one, or make your own craft project. 

                

    Literacy- Create your own river story with the WWF.

    Be inspired by watching storyteller Cindy Lou’s journey of a salmon travelling up the river and the animals it meets on its way, the playful otter, the nervous water vole, and the superfast kingfisher.

    Then read the fact files to plan and create your own story about the river-dwelling species and how their habitats are affected by human activity. While watching the video, why not magpie some of the adjectives and other vocabulary that you like and use them in your own story.

    Today we're going to look at data again. Watch these two tutorials here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/subjects/zjxhfg8 and then let's look at collecting your own data. This really just means counting the amount of things that you want to know about. As it's Earth Day, can you collect data about your recycling bin?

    How many cardboard items are there? You might have plastic wrappers, tins, bottles, pots, trays, glass jars - whatever you have you can record the data in a chart. Write your own questions about your data - What is the most/ What is the difference between/What is the least. 

    Science

    Our science topic is all about Plants. Explore germination by trying to grow from your own ‘seed’. All you need is a dried bean/pea (a cooked one won’t work) or seed, a wet paper towel and a clear bag to put them in. This website explains the steps. You can even start your own ‘Bean Diary’ to track it’s progress by writing down the changes every few days.
