We first examined why people of the past explored. We got to taste some of the foods and spices that they discovered and transported from different countries. We then found those places on maps.

Then we looked at what polar explorers need to bring with them and compared the clothing of the first polar explorers with the clothing of current polar explorers.

This week we have been learning lots about David Attenborough. As part of this, we learnt that he is heavily involved in caring for the environment, teaching others about animals and has several animals named after him.

We wrote letters to him inviting him to come with us to explore somewhere, discover new plants and animals, film a documentary and experience nature.

We have been learning about the countries that make up the United Kingdom, their flags and their capitals.

We have also been learning about human and physical features, the differences between these and where they are located.

We have been learning about the compass points and have been able to use compass directions to give directions to our friends and to direct Wilbur around the United Kingdom.

We have been researching the countries in the United Kingdom and have written information booklets about the UK.

We have used atlases to find places and learn more about the UK.

We have also learnt about the seas around the United Kingdom.

    Autumn 2

This half term we have been learning about The Great Fire of London. Why don't you learn about it and also practise your sign language using this song?

To begin our topic, we made Tudor houses and set fire to them in a Great Fire of London recreation.

We have been identifying the differences between London in 1666 and London now.

We have also pretended to be people from the Great Fire of London and did some hot seating.
