  • Speaking and Listening

Children cannot be effective writers unless they have some grasp and understanding of what they are writing about. The wealth of activities and experiences we provide at the school help to give children plenty of opportunities for discussion, with adults modelling correct grammar.

To further develop children’s confidence with speaking and listening skills, our Literacy sessions are often used to provide opportunities for the children to express themselves verbally, whether through drama, debating, or sharing their work. The children are encouraged to listen to their peers, and to give their opinions about their peers' work in a constructive way.

Our weekly Enrichment hour also provides the opportunity for children to further develop their speaking and listening skills in a fun, small group environment. Activities include fliming, poetry performances, writing and performing plays, and debating.
