  • Literacy Week 2018

    Monday 19th - Friday 23rd November 2018

Literacy Week 2018 at Mission Grove has been a roaring success!

Our special visitor, Lucas Jet from Big Top Mania, enthralled the children with his amazing juggling, acrobatic and unicycling skills - he even got some of the teachers involved! It was heartwarming to see and hear the enthusiasm of the children, and Lucas said he loved the great atmosphere we provided. During the smaller workshops, each child practised some basic circus skills, including juggling, balancing spinning plates, and throwing sticks.

This experience was an excellent springboard into the Literacy activities the children completed. They wrote poems, stories, persuasive pieces and plays. Lucas also wrote a special blog post about our school, highlighting the wonderful diversity we have a Mission Grove, and also linking different examples of circus performing around the world. His post can be found at  https://www.lucasjet.party/blog/circus-inspiration-for-a-vibrant-primary-school-topic. Lucas has also written a poem called Ricardo the Rope Walker.

Our 'Guess the Teacher' poetry competition was another roaring success, and with 11 teachers to choose from it was always going to be a close contest to see which class would guess the most teachers correctly. The votes are nearly all in, and a winner will be announced shortly.

Our annual 'Poetry Slam' took place on the South Site, with Lukas in Wren taking out the main prize. The North Site will complete their slam this week.
