We created our own patterns using loose materials such as twigs, leaves, pebbles, rocks, cubes etc. We worked on understanding that different media can be combined to create new effects. We constructed with a purpose in mind, using a variety of resources and talked about why and how we made our pattern. We then decided to collect our own loose parts and make a pattern. Some children challenged themselves to do a 2-step pattern, whilst others did a 3-step pattern.
Sonia said : “I made a pattern with a leave and stick. I know what comes next because I just say what I have from the beginning, then I can see what is next”.
Jundullah said : “I chose some brown buttons and some white buttons because I like those colours. They are dark and bright colours. I did a 2-step pattern because I used 2 colours. But I also did a zigzag shape which is also a pattern. I just had to go up and down over and over again”.
